Primary Victory in Nevada's 4th Congressional District! On to November! A Nevada assemblyman, Ruben Kihuen has been an advocate for working-class people and he's exactly the right kind of person we need in Congress. AWF is excited to endorse Kihuen as a trusted voice who deserves a promotion to fight for us in Congress.
Primary Victory! On to November! American Working Families endorses Steve Santarsiero for Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District. Santarsiero is the candidate we most trust to stand on the side of working families. He has been endorsed by PA Gov. Tom Wolf, Sierra Club, and a number of unions. We proudly stand with them and urge people to vote Steve Santarsiero for Congress.
Re-Elected! U.S. Representative Gene Green is a Democratic congressman representing the Twenty-Ninth Congressional District in Texas. Green sits on the important Energy and Commerce Committee. Most important, Green has been a solid advocate for working families from Day One in Congress. American Working Families supports Green as our first endorsed candidate in 2016 because voices like his must continue to be heard in the halls of Congress.
This year, Green faces an unusual primary from an opponent who once served on Houston's City Council but quit and then campaigned for sheriff. As sheriff, he quit again to campaign for mayor. Now after losing his race for mayor, he has chosen to run for Congress against an already proven and trusted leader.
American Working Families endorses Green because he is a trusted voice for working families who has never quit fighting for them or quit working at the job he was elected to do.
Elected! Working families in Virginia will benefit from having Terry McAuliffe as their new Governor, as opposed to the dangerous Tea Party choice. He will be a strong voice for working families and will work to create new jobs. His opponent, Ken Cuccinelli, was extreme and reckless. His policies pose a genuine threat for Virginia's working families.
Elected! Working families in New Hampshire chose Jeanne Shaheen again to be their Senator. She defeated Scott Brown, who we know well from Massachusetts and will keep an eye on to see where he goes next.
Elected! Bostonians chose a great fighter for working families to be their next mayor, Marty Walsh. While there are a number of exceptional candidates, Mr. Walsh's lengthy and proven record of fighting for working families made our decision an easy one. We believe Mr. Walsh’s dedication to creating and maintaining quality jobs while investing in Boston's neighborhoods and their schools will help maintain a strong foundation to move Boston into the future.
Elected! A true working-class advocate is going to the United States Senate. American working families didn't let Wall Street and the right wing win.
What She Says
“We cannot run our country without a strong middle class. We cannot run a democracy without a strong middle class. If we hollow out the middle class then the country we know is gone.” (source: Vanity Fair, 11/2011)
What Others Say
Elizabeth Warren is “a champion of the beleaguered middle class” (Vanity Fair, 11/2011) and a “New Sheriff of Wall Street” (Time, 5/2010)
The Outrageous Attacks
Karl Rove’s super PAC, Crossroads GPS, unleashed a barrage of false and misleading attack ads against Warren which are among “the most disingenuous and inaccurate” of the 2012 election cycle. USA Today called some of the attacks “absurd” and said that “Crossroads GPS distorts the facts in TV ads” (USA Today, 12/13/2011)
Elected! Pennsylvanians showed Tom Corbett to the door in 2014 and elected Working Families fighter Tom Wolf to be their next Governor. Good choice, Pennsylvania!
AWF opposes the re-election of Rep. Will Hurd (TX-23). Hurd is a first-term Republican who supports a reckless Republican agenda and fiscal policy that hurts working families, seniors and our nation’s most vulnerable. Recently, with seven confirmed cases of Zika in San Antonio, Hurd chose to leave for Memorial Day Weekend, rather than stay at work to demand emergency funding to combat the Zika virus outbreak crisis. For these reasons and more, AWF endorses Peter Gallego as a more responsive leader with a proven record.
Defeated x2! We beat him in Massachusetts in 2012, and in New Hampshire in 2014. But he may be back again in a 3rd state someday? We will keep an eye on him. We cannot afford to allow Scott Brown back into government as another vote against working families.
Defeated! With help from groundwork we did in 2012, the voters of Pennsylvania held Tom Corbett accountable in 2014 for cutting tens of thousands of children from health care, and slashing schools by more than $1 billion while giving out unfair tax-breaks and new jobs to his corporate friends and campaign donors.
Re-elected in 2014. Scott Walker came to office in Wisconsin on the promise of creating 250,000 jobs, but as governor he hasn't even come close -- and he waged a war on working people. Walker is a union-busting right-wing instigator who has proven time and again that he will put his own personal and political agenda ahead of the needs of Wisconsin working families. That's why Scott Walker is Making Things Harder for Wisconsin people. Unfortunately he won his re-election, so now we need to keep an eye on him and prevent him from taking his trail of destruction nationally.
